Zeme is currently an internal Orbitz Worldwide product. Its aim is to improve the workflow and workload for creating, configuring, and maintaining a very large number of travel sites built upon a shared back-end platform and engine. The goal has been to create a tool with a user-friendly way of allowing configuration settings to be published for subscription to multiple sites. Instead of having a setting with the same values applied to each site, Zeme applies a “pub/sub” model that allows multiple sites to share the same setting. The benefits include efficiency, scalability, and a system that is accessible to both business users and developers alike.
As the lead designer on this project, I have been responsible for developing a complete design system for this interface, including concept, layout and template, color palette, typography, iconography, navigation, interaction patterns, and definition of complete design standards. Development and implementation of both Zeme and the master platform it interfaces are still underway.
The storyboard shown below outlines a user creating a new site on the platform using the Zeme interface.
